Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC)
As Mary Ward women, we aim to further Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) in a specific Mary Ward way, in a spirit of freedom, justice, sincerity and joy which speak most powerfully to JPIC issues.
JPIC is an international movement springing forth from Vatican 2; it strives to increase awareness of the injustices in our world, to:
- promote the dignity of all, especially women and children
- challenge unjust systems and structures
- stand with those on the edges of society
- care for the earth and all of creation
We work to sustain all life by caring for Earth’s ecosystems, addressing climate change, and committing to ecological conversion. The call to us now is to be more alert and responsive to JPIC issues in all that we do.
A current priority for our JPIC ministry is integral ecology as illustrated in Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’. We are part of a global Catholic movement for the care of creation lived out in our 7-year plan according to the Laudato Si Action Platform
Nature cannot be regarded as something separate from ourselves or as a mere setting in which we live. We are part of nature, included in it and thus in constant interaction with it.

Mary Ward’s network is represented at the United Nations by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM) and the Congregation of Jesus (CJ). Our projects are influenced by Gospel values and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
